No two clients’ experiences are identical, even when they come from the same family. Having to open up about personal struggles can be a difficult and emotional experience, irrespective of age.
At LifePRO Counselling, we understand this. We know that reaching out for support can be exceptionally hard.
We get that clients want solutions to the challenges they are experiencing and a low-fuss approach.
Therapy and counselling are often terms often used interchangeably. Without getting into semantics (and more importantly), our therapeutic treatment uses evidence-based approaches to helping clients with their life challenges.
Psychotherapy is called ‘talking’ therapy and can assist with gaining insights and strategies to support you with achieving the positive outcomes you desire.
You can request an appointment over the phone, via SMS, email or online.
When booking an appointment via phone, we’ll answer any questions you might have and arrange to email you information. When booking via SMS, email or online, we will ring you within 48-hours for a quick chat about what you’re looking for and ensure we are the best option for you.
We understand that meeting someone new and talking about your current life circumstances and challenges takes courage. That’s why we take time to ask questions to give us a good idea of why you’ve to come to counselling and what you’re hoping to achieve. You can ask questions and we’ll clarify how counselling works in an easy-to-understand way.
The challenges that bring people to counselling vary greatly.
Depending on the circumstances, some clients find that a few sessions is all that is needed to achieve their counselling goals. Those with more complex challenges come longer term.
In general, many clients have 6 sessions and then we review their progress towards their treatment goals and outcomes. To establish a solid therapeutic foundation with new clients, we recommend booking a minimum of 3 sessions, which can be cancelled and/or rescheduled as needed.
We select counselling and therapy from a wide range of approaches and techniques. These all depend on what approach seems to best serve the needs of our clients.
These may include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychological Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solutions-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Relaxation strategies, and psychological education.
We also provide Christian and faith-based counselling, where preferred.
Psychologists and social workers are dedicated to helping others.
Psychologists undergo at least 6 years training and use their training and education in the human mind and human behaviour to diagnose mental health issues and provide psychotherapy and other treatment.
Mental health social workers have at least 4 years training with a minimum further 2 years advanced mental health training and practice to become accredited. They specialise in helping clients improve their quality of life by treating mental health problems. They recognise how the world we live in, and its systems, can also influence an individual’s mental health, impacting on friends, family, work and education.
At LifePRO Counselling, we consider the internal and external factors in the client’s world when individualising treatment with them.
We appreciate that parents and carers who bring their child / youth / teen / adolescent for counselling and therapy do so because they are seeking support with their wellbeing.
The Privacy Act 1988 protects an individual’s personal information regardless of their age and doesn’t specify an age after which an individual can make their own privacy decision. For consent to be valid, an individual must have capacity to consent. This means that young people have the same right to confidentiality in counselling as adults.
For children and adolescents:
This means that therapists would not share your session details with parents without your consent (permission). However, LifePRO Therapists reserve the right to disclose ‘relevant’ information to parent/s or legal guardians where we believe that your (or another person’s) safety is at risk. We will normally discuss this with you before we share your information.
For parents and carers:
LifePRO Therapists pride themselves on being able to connect with young people. Establishment of trust and respect with your child is vital to building a healthy working relationship with them. This assists with achieving desired outcomes that improve their life and relationships with you (parents) and others. We ask for consent to share information when it will improve relationships. You are always welcome to ask questions about our work with your child.
